THE POET & THE CITY (IN-PERSON)

$785.00

4 Week In-Person Saturday Workshop

October 3, 10, 17, 24

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST

Max Capacity: 4

This workshop is special and meets in my apartment in Manhattan (UWS).

DESCRIPTION:

We will think about New York, Paris, the West Coast, and any place your imagination wants to explore. There will be prompts involving long walks, stream of consciousness voice notes, ekphrasis tied to New York museums, the subway, bars, parks, public spaces, as well as the idea of the city stranger.

We will read and talk about the work of Walt Whitman (NYC), Hart Crane (NYC), Frank O’Hara (NYC), Charles Baudelaire (Paris), Allen Ginsberg (San Francisco), Jack Spicer (San Francisco), and others who have also been obsessed with cities and places.

We will also think about the imagination as a place, the past as a place, and how we can invent new places to contain what has happened to us.

This is a generative workshop over 4 weeks. You’ll leave class with surprising poems and a new confidence.
