DESCRIPTION:
What are your fears as a writer? What do you imagine you can’t say or write about? Unlocking this part of yourself has the power to take your writing to a better place. It also has the power to free you from the past. In this workshop we’ll steer toward a fearlessness no matter what the subject matter happens to be: family, the body, the unconscious—nothing is off the table.
We will think about Jung’s theory of the shadow (the aspect of ourselves that the conscious ego does not identify with or accept) and individuation (the lifelong process of becoming psychologically whole) and how we can go deeper within our creative work to a place of liberation. We will also read and talk about writers who are fearless: Frederick Seidel, John Wieners, Linda Gregg, Anne Sexton, and others.
This is a generative workshop over 4 weeks. You’ll leave class with surprising poems and a new confidence.
